The biblicalhumanities.org 2016 Dataset of the Year is Levinsohn’s Greek New Testament Discourse Features. We created this award for the most valuable open dataset released in a given year for digital biblical studies.

Most students of biblical discourse analysis are aware of Stephen Levinsohn’s groundbreaking work, but many do not know that Levinsohn produced a discourse analysis of the entire Greek New Testament using SIL International’s Bible Analysis Research Tool (BART). Displays of this discourse analysis are available in PDF form, and are also available to licensed users of BART.

SIL International and Paul O’Rear, the primary developer of BART, have now released the underlying data on Github for use in any program that uses the UBS4/NA27, and Paul is working on making the data available for texts that are more freely licensed. Congratulations to Paul, the recipient of our first annual Dataset of the Year award.
